Go Texans!

Today the NFL franchise Houston Texans will host their first playoff game in their ten year history. At 3:30pm in Reliant Stadium they will face the visiting Cincinnati Bengals in what I hope will be a victorious start to a successful playoff run.

I don’t have tickets, so I very well might end up at a favorite establishment to enjoy the game with a few adult beverages.

A New Home

Tonight, the city's Houston Dynamo will be playing the L.A. Galaxy in the MLS's championship soccer match.

This photo shows just how the construction for the Dynamo's new stadium is going. Located in the shadow of downtown it will be ready for next year's schedule.

Danger!!!

With the way the baseball season has gone this year, perhaps this sign should have been more appropriate earlier in the season.

Well... There's always next year.

Last year... I decided to do something less "patriotic" HERE, but today I couldn't help but feel the spirit of the day.

Something about spending it with 70,000+ spirited Americans.

The NFL made sure on today's first game of the 2011 season that we would not forget.

It's Going To Be a LONG Year...

2011 hasn't been nice to the Houston Astros. They have officially began the rebuilding process and now have a lineup sprinkled with players recently promoted from AA.

This is outside of Minute Maid Park and that one shaded baseball seems to say it all.

Now Boarding…

Playfully referred to as the “Love Boat”, the George R Brown Convention Center does strike a very unique public profile. Opened in 1987 its 1.8 MILLION square feet of multi-use floor space ranks it as one of the ten largest convention centers in the country.

It Seems Like Just Yesterday...

The Astros were in the World Series and at the top of the baseball world.

Today? Not so much, as they are officially the worst team in Major League Baseball, but they are still the team I follow. Maybe one day... they'll be back at the top of the standings.

The retractable roof of Minute Maid Stadium isn't its only iconic feature, the replica 1860 locamotive that transverses high above left and center field is a fan favorite.

Plaaaaaaaay Ball

There’s nothing like going to see the local Major League Baseball team, the Astros, play in April. Mainly because the weather permits and the retractable roof is open, allowing the game to be played as it was intended: OUTSIDE. With Minute Maid Park’s downtown location, it also gives a great glimpse of the skyline as the sun sets. …AND with the team not predicted to finish very well in the standings, the attendance won’t be as great, making parking that much easier for those of us that still attend!! Welcome back, baseball.

Reliant Stadium and its predecessor, the Astrodome reside in what is now called Reliant Park. Highlighted by the world’s very first domed stadium and the world’s first retractable roof, natural grass football stadium, it is shown here hosting the events of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, including its carnival midway.

Houston Union Station

What once was the largest railroad passenger terminal in the Southwest is now the main entrance and lobby to Minute Maid Park, home stadium of MLB’s Houston Astros. The station’s Great Hall was completely renovated when the ballpark was built in 1999 as false ceilings and office walls completely robbed us of its former glory. Now… its arched roof and fluted columns stand as a testament to Houston’s past and also a functional part of its present.

Major League Baseball ends today and with it, Minute Maid Park will close till next season. No more hot dogs... no more peanuts... no more Cracker Jacks.

With its retractable roof open, you get a glimpse of the train that runs after each Astro home run.

Opening Day 2011 will be here before you know it.
