What was Sam pointing at?

In yesterday’s post, the statute of Sam Houston is pointing in the direction towards the site of the battlefield that won Texas its independence from Mexico. The San Jacinto Monument is the centerpiece to the Battleground Historic Site, and is the world’s tallest monumental column (exceeding the Washington Monument by 3.5 meters).

Feel free to insert any “things are bigger in Texas” joke here.

  1. And all this time I thought the Washington Monument was the tallest. This doesn't get as much PR, does it? Very impressive and your shot is wonderful!

  2. This is really cool! Great information too.

Some years ago I was stuck in Houston for a couple of days. I was going to NYC (coming from Central America) but a big storm on the US eastern coast forced the airports to close. In these situations you always have to be near the hotel as you never know when you can fly so I haven't seen much of your city...
