A somewhat popular means of underwriting improvement projects is by soliciting the public to "purchase" a tree, a brick or in this case a paving stone. For their "donation", they recieve the shown recognition.
These are part of the Meditation Gardens on the grounds of the University of St. Thomas, and as you can tell by the inscriptions, many of the sponsors are gratful alumni.
